Systems Engineer
Job Description
Merlin System Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team supporting federal and commercial clients in the Washington, DC metro area. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems that meet mission requirements.
In this role, you will work across the full systems engineering lifecycle—from requirements analysis through deployment and sustainment. You'll collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, design technical solutions, and ensure successful implementation.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with excellent communication abilities. You should be comfortable presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and producing clear documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph
- BS in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with solution architecture and system design
- Strong understanding of enterprise IT systems and integration patterns
- Experience with system integration across diverse platforms
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation (SDDs, ICDs, SOPs)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with federal IT systems and compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP)
- DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) experience
- Cloud architecture experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Familiarity with microservices and API design
- Experience with identity and access management solutions
- Data platform and analytics architecture experience
- Performance analysis and optimization experience
- INCOSE or similar systems engineering certification
- Experience with modeling tools (Enterprise Architect, Visio, Lucidchart)
